I graduated in medicine from the Medical College Trivandrum, University of Kerala, India. Upon arrival for postgraduate training in the UK, I worked in different Paediatric units across the country. I had the opportunity to work with nationally and internationally reputed Paediatric Consultants and Specialists with different interest and expertise Paediatrics.
Since 1996 I have been appointed as a Consultant Paediatrician in the NHS. In the main I am a General Paediatrician with special interest Neonatology and Paediatric Neurology and Epilepsy. Until 2011, I had been the lead for the Neonatal Unit. Since then I have taken up as the lead in Paediatric Epilepsy for the Trust, I see all children referred to the Paediatric Department with seizures or headaches or referred with various neurological problems. I am closely involved in the North Thames Paediatric Epilepsy Network (NTPEN) that holds regular meetings at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. I share some of the complex epilepsy patients with Neurology colleagues at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I hold regular discussions regarding the management of children with complex epilepsy who are resistant to the usual treatment and reflect upon these cases. I have been involved in the National Epilepsy 12 Audit organised by the RCPCH. We had a good feedback for this audit in 2012 for both round 1 and round 2 in 2014
I was a panel member for the Child Health Review for the RCPCH. This team looked at various aspects of the management of children died of epilepsy or those admitted to the high dependency unit or intensive care unit. This review identified several areas of concerns in the acute management of children presenting with seizures and subsequent care. An abstract has been published at the RCPCH meeting.
I keep up to date with training in epilepsy management with the PET courses organised by the BPNA. I have completed the PET 1, PET 2 and PET 3 Courses in 2018.
I have been involved in different national and international studies as a collaborator. Currently involved in the UK infantile spasm study (UKISS). Eclipse Study and The National Tourette’s Syndrome Study.
I keep my interest in the perinatal network. This involves regular meetings which helps to keep me up-to-date with the new developments and in continuing with the CPD (CME) in Neonatal medicine.
I am the lead for clinical governance in Paediatrics, chairing and coordinating the agenda, organising speakers and taking minutes and distributing the minutes.
I lead the clinical audit for the department and work closely with the clinical audit department. I am directly involved in various local, national, and international clinical audits and supervise several audits by the juniors. I have brought in changes in practice and implemented some of the established national guidelines in the department.

I am actively involved in teaching and training the junior doctors and medical students, At Watford General Hospital, we have medical students from University College, Imperial and from St George’s University, Grenada. I teach regularly for the FY trainees and the GP colleagues. As a clinical supervisor and educational supervisor, I have regular trainees in Paediatrics. I have been offered an honorary clinical lecturer post from University College London (UCL). I have also been appointed as Programme Director for Paediatrics at this Trust by the St Georges University of Grenada (SGU). I have been awarded an Honorary Asst Professor post in Paediatrics by SGU.
I am actively involved with OSCE at Watford and UCL. I regularly examine undergraduates from UCL and Royal Free, I am involved in the undergraduate FCCE examination by the SGU.
I examine regularly for DCH and MRCPCH examinations for the RCPCH. I regularly participate and contribute to the question setting meeting organised by the RCPCH.
I am also an appraiser for the Trust. I regularly appraise consultants and Speciality training doctors including associate specialist and staff grade doctors. I am also an educational supervisor for the trainees in Paediatrics and General practice.
As part of the service and being a member of some committees, I am involved in several departmental and inter departmental meetings. I am involved in serious case reviews and clinical risk issues. These meetings are held regularly in Paediatrics and jointly with Obstetrics department, trying to identify and rectify factors contributing to serious incidents.
I undertook a 3 year Post Graduate Certificate Course and Post Graduate Diploma, leading to MSc in Epilepsy Practice at the Leeds Metropolitan University. This was completed in 2016 with a Merit award for MSc.
